No changes for local electoral boundaries

Local ridings will remain untouched for the next two provincial elections.

The government has accepted the recommendations of the Electoral Boundaries Commission that included keeping the same number of ridings in rural BC.

This despite them being well below the population normally required for a riding.

Katrine Conroy – MLA for Kootenay West- says this is a first for the area because the Commission could have re-aligned local boundaries.

The Commission acknowledged the challenges MLA’s have in covering such big geography.

Two new ridings will be added in the Lower Mainland to reflect growing populations there bringing he total number to 87.
