Local politician: Trudeau cabinet a breakthrough

It’s a national breakthrough in gender equity that will be spoken about for years to come.

That’s the view from a local rural politician of the 50-50 female-male split in the new federal cabinet announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Leah Main is an RDCK Director from the Slocan Valley and is our region’s rep on the BC Caucus of the Federation Of Canadian Municipalities.

She says gender equity has been a battle for decades.

Three BC MP’s are in the cabinet including former First Nations Chief Jody Wilson-Raybould who becomes Justice Minister and Carla Qualtrough who is minister of sport and persons with disabilities.
