While the Kootenay Lake School District finances look healthy, it’s still not clear if more teachers will be hired.
Staff figure that revenues and the likely enrolment picture will cover the budget for the rest of the school year.
That means all of an unexpected $700,000 surplus can go into areas such as student initiatives.
The teacher’s union wants more hires but Secretary-Treasurer Kim Morris says it has yet to be deteremined how the money will be spent.
Morris says the one-off money could go into teachers, councilors, clerical or vehicles and their finance and operations committee will meet to make recommendations.
