Teck Trail Operations says it will do everything it can to ensure jobs lost will be through attrition.
But as the company’s local spokesman Richard Deane explains that won’t cover off all the estimated 70 to 80 positions being eliminated by the end of next year.
The job cuts at Trail which amount to 5% of the local workforce are among a thousand worldwide announced by the company in light of continued depressed commodity prices.
Future capital spending is also being reviewed but the ground water treatment plant and fugitive dust recycle building remain on track.
