The BC SPCA is giving the community an assurance that the sub-standard facility in Trail will be shut down next year.
But ideally they need help from regional government to build a new $1.6 million full service regional hub.
Regional Operations Manager Tracy Westmoreland says the SPCA is committed to putting its own funds and provincial grants into a new site.
A new full service hub could handle up to 500 animal cases a year and the SPCA asked the RDCK this week for a $50,000 capital grant.
Castlegar is a possible location.
