Affordable downtown housing plans

A Nelson church has formally presented their concept for an affordable rental housing development in the downtown to city council.

Pastor Jim Reimer with Kootenay Christian Fellowship says the three-storey building on falls street would cost $6.5 million.

Rentals from the 40 affordable units and some retail space would cover most of the borrowing costs but they’re still looking to secure around $2-million in grants.

The church would donate the land and they’ve asked for a letter of support from council so they can reach out to various agencies.
