Union reacts to delay in laundry decision

The Hospital Employees Union is pleased to hear Interior Health is taking a longer look at the possibility of outsourcing laundry service.

HEU Spokesman Mike Old says all parties know it’s a quality and efficient service.

17 jobs in Nelson alone could be lost.

There has been widespread opposition to the idea.

Almost 13,000 residents signed a petition which was presented at the legislature.

IH has said new equipment would cost $10 million but old says that’s nothing in the bigger picture when weighing the job impact on communities.

It could take till the spring to get a final decision.
