The United Steelworkers in Trail hope to learn more this week about the job reduction plans at Teck.
The company has said as part of global cut backs there will be a loss of up to 80 employees next year – mostly through attrition.
Armindo de Medeiros – the President of local 480 – says ordinarily annual retirements might have accounted for all of that, but only 40 people are currently on the list.
Meetings are scheduled with HR this week to learn about possible early retirement plans but the company has said some lay-offs will happen.
It was not immediately clear how many retirements are planned with the smaller 9705 local.
