Nelson council has reconsidered and will accept an offer from Shaw Communications.
The company will instal and run free wi-fi hot spots in public buildings and parks.
Users will not need to be Shaw customers although they can expect to be solicited by the company when using the free service.

Some councilors have expressed concerns about privacy and possible health effects but the free offer was ultimately accepted.
Shaw will pay for the infrastructure saving taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars had the city chosen to install it.
