There are big changes coming to Castlegar’s waste collection system.
City council has decided to move to a bi-weekly pick up schedule and will provide residents with bear-resistant garbage containers.
Here’s Councilor Kevin Chernoff.
Other motives are to reduce the amount of waste heading to landfills and to cut back on human conflicts with wildlife.
Savings on operating costs with the lighter collection schedule will pay for the bins which will cost $475,000 dollars.
The changes are expected to be implemented in april to give residents time to adjust.
