As the first Syrian refugees arrive in Canada, local groups are ramping up their preparation efforts.
Nelson City Councillor Valerie Warmington is on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Refugee Task Force.
She says three groups in Nelson are working on bringing families to town though housing remains a stumbling block.
Warmington says a meeting of interested parties is planned Wednesday to compare notes.
A variety of fundraisers are also underway.
