C.O.’s tracking loose cheetah on Kootenay Lake

Efforts to capture that cheetah on the loose on Kootenay Lake are under way, and it appears to be illegally owned.

The BC Conservation Service is tracking the animal on foot after if was spotted near Kootenay Bay yesterday.

A motorist took photos of it wandering roadside along Highway 3-A and contacted authorities.

Joe Carravetta the Inspector for the Kootenay Region says it’s only legal to own a cheetah with a permit.

Carravetta says their priority is public safety and to catch the big cat as it won’t survive in this climate.

Crawford Bay and Kootenay Bay area residents are asked to be aware of the presence of the cheetah and urged to call the RAPP line if they see it.
