After a couple of years of study and public consultation, BC Hydro has decided not to dredge the Grohman Narrows near Nelson.
Spokeswoman Mary-Anne Coules says studies indicate there would not be sufficient flood control benefits, only up to 2 feet, relative to the costs and potential risks.
Low, medium and high excavation options were considered.
BC Hydro explored the idea of dredging the narrows after regional leaders wanted to know if there could be a reduction in flood risk by clearing out that part of Kootenay River.
