Students who attend Kootenay River Secondary and Canyon-Lister Elementary could see some new faces when they return to school in the fall.

Principal Brian Hamm will be leaving Kootenay River Secondary for Erickson Elementary to take on the role as principal.

Vice-principal Mike Nelson will be staying in his role at the school but he will add the title of vice-principal of Wildflower Creston to his leadership portfolio.

Laury Carriere will transfer to Kootenay River Secondary from Canyon-Lister to serve as the principal, as well as continue her role as the principal of Wildflower Creston.

Principal Ken Wiens will be leaving Erickson Elementary to take a role as the district principal for SD8’s online learning program, and the hybrid online/in-person learning program, Homelinks.

In a media release, superintendent Trish Smillie says she is thankful to everyone for their service and wishes everyone luck in their future endeavors.

“I am incredibly thankful for the teamwork, flexibility and dedication of our principles and vice-principals,” Smillie says. “We need compassionate, supportive, and effective leadership for educators and learners to excel.”

School leader openings at Canyon-Lister elementary will be filled in the coming months and the changes will be announced before the new school year begins.
