Fewer fatalities, more impaired drivers on local roads in 2015

The Nelson Integrated Road Safety Unit and West Kootenay Traffic services are reporting fewer fatalities on our roads in 2015.

RCMP Sgt. John Ferguson says it was a big improvement in that aspect over the previous year.

However he finds some figures from the past year to be concerning.

2015 saw a 35% increase in impaired driving with a 100% increase in one, three and seven day suspensions.

There was also a 10% spike in drug-impaired cases as well as a 100% increase in drug trafficking charges.
