A program aimed at educating young athletes, coaches and parents about mental health challenges in sports has been embraced locally.
The Nelson Leafs are the first KIJHL team to get involved with Breakout – a program founded by assistant coach Sean Dooley.
He says a key part of the program is making sure people know the warning signs.
The program develops relationships with local mental health branches as well as other mental health organizations.
There will be an official launch for the Breakout program Saturday afternoon at 4 pm at the NDCC.
