Kalmikoff arrested and breaches bail

Krista Kalmikoff, the local woman convicted of armed robbery in Nelson, has been arrested as she awaits sentencing for those crimes.

She has been charged on two counts of drug possession which is a breach of the bail conditions she has been under for more than a year.

In a bail hearing in Nelson Court her defence lawyer requested she be remanded in a women’s holding facility.

This is because her elderly grandmother, who has signed a $40,000 surety, is in ill-health and can no longer be her supervisor and guarantor.

Her lawyer says there is no other place for her to go.

Crown Counsel has accepted that she should remain in the holding facility until her bail hearing resumes in early February.

In December a jury found Kalmikoff guilty of being an accomplice of partner Andrew Stevenson in two armed robberies in Nelson.

No sentencing date has been set for that.
