Creston man arrested and charged with multiple firearm-related offences

Creston RCMP have arrested a man following a search warrant being carried out.

On Jan. 5, at around 11 am, officers of the Creston RCMP detachment and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team and Containment team executed a search warrant for a property near HWY 3 and Canyon-Lister Rd.

Officers arrested 41-year-old Dwayne Robert Schickerowski without incident and charged him with multiple firearm-related offences.

“(He) has been charged with; Uttering Threats to Cause Death, Possession of a Weapon for a Purpose Dangerous to the Public, Using a Firearm in the Commission of an Indictable Offence, Possession of a Prohibited Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Careless Use of a Firearm,” described the RCMP release.

Execution of the search warrant resulted in the seizure of multiple firearms.

“These firearms were loaded and stored unsafely, as well as altered in a fashion that is common in firearm possession for the purpose of committing crime,” stated the release.

“This was yet another dynamic investigation requiring delicate handling in the interest of public and police safety,” stated Creston Detachment leader S/Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk in the release.

“I am grateful for the quick, thorough, and appropriate response by my officers in bringing this dangerous individual into custody. Further, we are thankful for the work done by the Southeast District ERT and Containment Teams in bringing this matter to a conclusion safely for all involved.”

Schickerowski remains in custody pending his next court appearance.
