Creston held it’s final community consultation for the Creston Housing Corporation last week.
More than 30 community members attended, questioning where the land will come from, and the challenges faced from the people who will occupy the homes.
Mike Moore, Creston Council’s Chief Administrative Officer, says they are trying to be proactive towards the town housing crisis.
“Why now? The housing needs report, we need 565 new units by 2025, we are at around 130 units.” said Mr Moore.
“No one else is going to do it,”
“We are not saying that there are no developers out there trying, they’re not building the numbers, that’s not the case. Its just not the numbers that we need.”
The community is encouraged to submit their feedback before this Friday, May 24.
It will then be taken to the council on June 4.
