A local environmental activist is pleased with the legal news regarding the 2013 Lemon Creek fuel spill but she’s also frustrated.
The Slocan Valley’s Marilyn Burgoon was speaking after the Federal Crown confirmed in Nelson Court it has taken conduct of the file.
But they won’t decide to lay charges until they review an investigation of the massive tanker spill by the conservation service and Environment Canada, that’s expected soon.
Burgoon, who was previously granted permission to prosecute this case as a private citizen, says that report has taken years.
Burgoon says if charges are not ultimately laid it will make clear to the public that corporations and governments are above the law.
