Communities in the Central Kootenay region are set to receive additional funding to help prepare for and mitigate disaster risks.
The Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness announced Thursday that it would be providing local governments with $1.4 million in funding to bolster emergency operations centres in 29 communities around the province.
A total of$59,650 has been allocated for the Central Kootenay region.
The Regional District of Central Kootenay will receive $29,650 to support equipment and training initiatives for its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), and the City of Nelson is also receiving $30,000 for its EOC enhancement project.
EOC’s, according to the BC Government’s website, serve as a main hub for coordination and planning between local representatives during crises such as wildfires or floods.
