Councillor’s legal fight about free public water

Embattled Grand Forks City Councillor Julia Butler has had her day in court with her lawyer defending allegations of conflict of interest.

The city wants her dismissed saying she was wrong to vote on water matters when she owned a lawn care business and had publicly opposed metering.

But speaking after the Supreme Court hearing in Vancouver yesterday, Butler insists this is about a fight for continued free access to public water.

Butler’s company made about $6,000.

She argues that’s hardly a financial incentive to vote against water charge increases and metering.
