Creston mourns death of retired Fire Chief Bruce Mabin

The town of Creston is mourning the death of retired Creston Fire Chief Bruce Mabin, who passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024, after a short battle with cancer.

Mabin began his fire service career in 1977 with the City of Lethbridge before joining the Town of Creston as Fire Chief in 2000.

“Bruce came here in 2000, during the latter part of his career, and made a significant impact on the firefighters who were already part of Creston Fire. He continued to build the department by bringing on new firefighters, introducing new programs, implementing better operating procedures, and really moving the department into a new era,” said Creston Fire Chief Jared Riel.

For 12 years, Mabin led Creston’s fire department with unwavering dedication and professionalism. He was responsible for developing the Town’s Halloween Safety Night, a tradition the department has maintained even after his retirement in December 2012.

Bruce leaves behind his loving partner, Laura Dodman, who currently serves as Creston’s Assistant Fire Chief, as well as his two sons, Gabe and Duncan, and many cherished grandchildren.

Creston’s flags, currently at half-mast in honour of the late Premier John Horgan, will remain lowered to pay tribute to Chief Mabin’s service, leadership, and contributions to the community.
