Deer cull coming to Grand Forks

Grand Forks Council has signed off on a request to the ministry for a permit to cull 80 deer.

Deer Committee Chair Gary Smith says after seven years of counting they figure they have a population of over 300 in just 1.8 square kilometres.

He says deer are being killed or maimed by vehicles … and it’s traumatic for motorists too.

Grand Forks now has the highest urban deer density in the entire province.

Smith says the Ministry has noted the city is well advanced in their due diligence and data collection.

The cull is set to happen in the fall using the trap and bolt gun method.
