RDCK pauses Rotacrest Hall conversion plans

The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) has paused plans to investigate converting Creston’s Rotacrest Hall into a new district office.

In September, the RDCK’S board of directors approved $13,000 in funding to develop a concept design and estimate for a renovation to convert the space into its new Creston office.

This sparked significant backlash from groups such as the New Horizon Senior Society, which has used the hall for more than 40 years to host a variety of senior‑focused events.

The society advocated against the conversion at the October Creston Valley Services Committee meeting, asking the district to reconsider.

In response, the RDCK Board of Directors voted in favour of pausing the plan at the Oct. 16 board meeting.

Directors instead asked staff to prepare a feasibility study of other potential locations, including properties not owned or leased by the RDCK, and bring a report back to the board at a later date.
