Local postal workers concerned about jobs

The Postal Workers Union Local in Nelson is not convinced jobs will be safe once community mail boxes are installed next year.

CUPW Local 790 President Brenda Mascoby Yanke says when the community mail boxes replace door-to-door delivery in the Queen City Canada Post will use  vehicles.

Things will reduce from ten routes to a maximum of six.

She wonders what that means for the letter carriers…noting the contract does not allow work transfers to Castlegar or Trail because that’s beyond a 40km radius.

Canada Post insists no regular full or part time employee will lose their job as a result of the initiative.
