Category 2 fires to be banned in Southeast Fire Centre

Category 2 open fires will be banned throughout the Southeast Fire Centre as of noon Friday.

The BC Wildfire Service says the move is to prevent human-caused wildfires and protect public safety. The prohibition will remain in place until Oct. 31.

This prohibition does not include campfires.

Category 2 open fires are those fires are a single pile not exceeding two metres high by three meters wide or burning grass over an area of less than 0.2 hectares.
