Idaho wildfire smoke visible in Creston Valley

A wildfire burning in Idaho is kicking up a lot of smoke visible from the Creston Valley, but the BC Wildfire Service says so far it hasn’t beek asked to help out.

In a Facebook post, the service acknowleged that people in Creston and travelling along Highway 21 might notice wildfire activity to the south but not see anything on the BC Wildfire map.

The Upper Smith wildfire is burning about eight kilometers south of the border, and 20 kilometers southwest of Creston. It has grown to just under 100 hectares.

BC Wildfire says the fire is being managed by the US Forest Service and isn’t visible on the BC Wildfire map because they aren’t responding to it. “We will continue to stay in touch with our partners to the south and provide support if requested,” they wrote.
