Evolution Martial Arts Creston wins four medals at Taekwon-Do International World Cup

Two Creston martial artists returned home with four medals after competing at the Taekwon-Do International World Cup in Lethbridge, Alta., on July 4 and 5.

Junior assistant instructor Oosei Leal led the way with three medals in the 16-17 division. He captured gold in patterns, silver in point sparring and bronze in continuous sparring.

Leal’s performance earned him a place on the podium in three separate events against competitors from around the world.

Head instructor Simon Wachon also brought home a medal, winning silver in the men’s executive black belt point sparring division while competing against experienced black belt opponents.

The four-medal showing marks a strong result for Evolution Martial Arts Creston, one of the community’s newer martial arts clubs.

Assistant coach Maria said she was proud of both athletes’ performances and praised Leal’s commitment to training, sportsmanship and mentoring younger students at the club.

The World Cup attracted competitors from multiple countries to compete in a range of Taekwon-Do disciplines, including patterns and sparring events.
