Creston library Friday service returns this week

The Creston Valley Public Library is restoring Friday service this week, thanks to a fundraising campaign that has raised more than $60,000 to help cover the cost.

Friday service resumes Oct. 2, with the library open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Fund a Friday campaign, led by the library board in partnership with the Friends of the Library, was launched in May after Friday service was cut due to a budget shortfall.

The goal is to raise enough money to cover the roughly $2,000 cost of operating the library each Friday for a year, with a target of $100,000.

While the campaign will continue through Dec. 31, the library said it’s bringing back Friday service before the campaign ends so the community can see its contributions in action.

“In an effort to encourage and support our community while continuing to raise funds towards our goal, we’re thrilled to reopen for service on Fridays before the campaign ends, but we’re not done,” said the library in a statement.

“We hope that when our patrons see their contributions in action they will continue to support our fundraising efforts for this important community service.”

The library’s new hours starting Friday are:

  • Tuesday to Thursday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday and Monday: closed

The library added that the earlier closing time on Fridays and Saturdays is intended to better reflect popular usage hours while maximizing the impact of fundraising.

Upcoming fundraising opportunities include pumpkin hayrides Oct. 3 and 4, as well as holiday fundraising initiatives later this year.

More information on the campaign and how to donate can be found here.
