A Grand Forks city councillor has resigned with immediate effect.
A statement from the city says Michael Wirischagin has resigned “…to focus on a career outside local politics.” It also reads (in part) that he and his family “… look forward to enjoying their private lives.”
Wirischagin is facing drunk-driving charges after an incident in Midway in June. He’s also been charged with failing or refusing to provide a sample.
The city says a by-election will take place for his replacement late this year or early 2016.
