East Kootenay Regional Hospital is getting a permanent MRI unit.
BC’s Health Minister Terry Lake made the announcement in Cranbrook yesterday.
The project is part of ongoing improvements to the hospital.
Lake says a permanent MRI scanner paves the way for even more testing closer to home
The new unit will now allow the current mobile unit Cranbrook has been using to travel to nearby communities.
$2-million in provincial funding , along with $2-million from Kootenay East Regional Hospital District and $1.3-million from the Cranbrook Health Care Auxillary will pay for the $5.3-million project.
It’s expected to be up and running in 2018.
