The Kootenay Kake School Board has voted to close Yahk and divest itself of the Creston Education Centre.
But Trustee Rebecca Huscroft is hopeful a deal can be struck to keep CECÂ programs in the same place.
Talks might involve the Town of Creston, Regional District and Lower Kootenay Band.
Trustees also voted to close schools in Salmo and Nelson but spared schools in Winlaw and Meadow Creek.
Final approval is expected next week.
