Approval “in principle” for Nelson development

The group behind a proposed new affordable housing complex in Nelson is moving ahead with their pre-development phase.

Pastor Jim Reimer with Kootenay Christian Fellowship is speaking after city council approved a letter of support “in principle” for his planned 40-unit three-storey site .

Reimer says local reports suggest as many as 160 people – many of them the so-called “working poor” or seniors – need a rental unit of around $600 or $700 a month.

The development -on their land at Falls Street -would cost $ 6.5 million and Reimer needs to raise $2 million in grants.
