RDCK ready IF emergency occurs

There’s an increase in smoke throughout the Creston Valley today.

It’s from the big fire in Idaho.

The USĀ Forest Service and Idahoan farmers are working together burning stubble fields that are in the vicinity of the Parker Ridge fire.

This is a proactive measure to help prevent further spread.

There are no evacuation alerts or orders currently in effect in the Creston Valley.

Meanwhile, the RDCK’sĀ Emergency Operations Centre Director is assuring residents that a plan is in place if an emergency occurs.

Terry Swan says in the case of a wildfire nearing the Creston Valley, local governments can request an evacuation, but that decision is made by the Southeast Fire Centre.

Swan says evacuation alerts and orders, if and when they occur, are delivered “hand to hand-face to face” by RCMPĀ and members of search and rescue as well as through local media.
