Former MP pushing for Castlegar hospice

Our region needs a hospice centre.

This from Roger Simmons, the former MP and diplomat who is the project adviser for the Castlegar Hospice Society’s proposed 10 bed facility.

300 people die each year in acute care hospital beds in our wider region.

A dedicated facility would save the system money while being of direct benefit to patients.

But Simmons says there are others who would be served.

Selkirk College could also provide nursing learning placements at the centre.

The society is seeking initial political support for the $3.6 million facility which would accommodate about 150 clients a year.
