CKISS using drones to map invasive plant’s spread

A local environmental group is working with Selkirk College to halt the spread of an invasive plant.

Morgan Sternberg with the Central Kootenay Invasive Species Society says the Yellow Flag Iris has spread to the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area.

They’re mapping the spread of the plant by flying a drone over the area with a special camera.

The Yellow Flag Iris is known to outcompete other plant species and poses threats to wildlife sustainability.
