Shutdowns planned for Erickson water system

Erickson water users will face dry taps for a couple of days over the next month.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay says the first shutdown is Friday, Oct. 20 between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Contractor Marwest Industries will be making the final tie-ins to the new mainline. The old concrete main installed in 1929 will no longer be used afterward.

The second shutdown will be Friday, Nov. 10, also between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. The final air vent located east of 27th Ave N and the open reservoir will be decommissioned. Completion of these tasks will result in a fully pressurized water system, the regional district said.

Water service may be intermittent and or unavailable during the water main outage hours.

The water system will also be placed on a boil notice from Oct. 20 to mid-November due to the risk of coliform entering the system during the tie-in and decommissioning work. In order to remove the notice, consecutive test results must indicate no presence of coliform bacteria.
