The Kootenays will soon have better access to cheap flights.
Westjet has introduced a regional air service to several smaller communities including Cranbrook.
They’re partnering with Pacific Coastal Airlines, one of the two airlines that currently fly into Cranbrook.
WestJet Vice president of Network Planning Brian Znotins says this could lower air fares.
There will be flights from Calgary to Cranbrook three times a day.
Znotins says if the service from Cranbrook to Calgary is successful they could look into expanding to other large airports.
Other small markets that will be getting regional air service include Lethbridge and Prince George
WestJet flights out of Cranbrook will be available in March.
