Creston will let the market sort itself out when it comes to managing cannabis retail locations.
Director of Municipal Services Ross Beddoes did not propose having a cap on the number of stores on Tuesday’s committee of the whole meeting. He says he would rather see the market sort itself out and council concurred.
A 150 metre buffer will still be required between cannabis outlets and schools. Beddoes says retail locations will likely be downtown and in the Creston Valley Mall.
A $1500.00 licensing fee and a $500.00 business license is also on the table for local cannabis stores. That does not include the $10,000.00 provincial application fee.
Two applications for cannabis retail stores in Creston have already gone through the province with a third on the way.
Council will vote on the 11th to pass the bylaw making Creston one step closer to awarding licenses.
