Former Creston Valley Thunder Cat Colton Meaden passed away on June 8, 2019.
He was 28 years old.
The specifics of the Calgary Native’s death have yet to be released. Shannon Veitch was his billet mom a decade ago and says he was well loved by the team and the community.
“He was a great guy on and off the ice. Very proud to be a Creston Valley Thunder Cat and certainly would have happily played out the last of his junior year here had it not been for his shoulder injury which just prevented him from, in the end, being able to play a full game.”
Meaden scored 28 goals and had 34 assists over two seasons with the Thunder Cats, playing through the shoulder injury, which would eventually force him to stop.
“Even though he was not in a leadership role on the team, he certainly lead by example and was really well liked by his teammates and certainly everyone here. He was polite. He was kind. We enjoyed having him as a billet.”
Veitch says Meaden waited until the very last moment to pack up, spending as long as he could in Creston before heading home to Calgary when his time with the Thunder Cats was over.
The team, the organization and Creston Valley residents send their deepest condolences to the Meaden family.
