We’re halfway through Movember and teachers all across Canada and the Kootenays are participating.
District 8, Adam Robertson Elementary School (ARES) teacher Alex White says the campaign goes beyond fighting prostate Cancer.
“It’s not just us here in Creston, it’s Canada-wide. Movember Canada has actually added on to its campaign mental health and suicide prevention which is a huge part of it. It also give us more to speak about at the schools.”

The annual Movember traditions began in Australia years ago, but now it’s observed all over the world.
“I’d like to apologize to all our wives who are not really diggin it but realize it’s such an important cause.” Says ARES teacher Matt Blick. “We’re here to help raise money for cancer research. We got some high school (PCSS) teachers as well. How can you not want to grow a fuzzy little mustache for Movember?”
The latest update from Alex White.
“To date, most of the fundraising has been championed by our own Mr. Matt Blick. Last I heard, he has fundraised almost $140 with more donations coming. Our target goal is set at $500 as a school community. We have sold a few ballots to students this week and plan to continue to sell more for a chance to have their names drawn and shave our faces in front of the whole school on Monday December 2nd’s assembly.”
