Despite the first day of winter not arriving until later in December, snow has taken the Kootenays and the RDCK is reminding everyone of the importance of ice safety.
Ice formed on the top of ponds and lakes can be extremely dangerous if too thin.
Before ice fishing, skating, or any other winter activity on the ice, always be sure it is safe for use.
“No ice is completely safe and it is imperative residents understand the inherent dangers,” said the RDCK in a release.
