Creston’s newest town councillors are ready to get to work following the 2024 by-election.
Carolyn Hawton and Megan Holland were successful in running for the two open spots on council, securing 477 and 450 votes, respectively.
Micah Wassink was close behind, receiving 433 votes. Trailing was Scott Irwin and Rick Klimeck who received 215 and 190 votes.
Holland says it was a close race.
“I am relieved. Election night was so crazy. It was so intense. That is such a tight split between the top three candidates,” stated Holland.
“Micah and Carolyn are awesome, so I was so proud to be running against them. And the whole experience is so interesting. And I can really appreciate the hard work and all those late nights I go into any campaign.”
Hawton says she was pleased with the outcome.
“It was a really close vote, actually. There weren’t very many votes that separated myself, Megan and Micah. And not too far behind us were the two gentlemen. So it was a really close vote. I was really excited that I came out on top, and that people stood behind me and wanted me to sit there on that council table.”
“I was really touched actually by the amount of community support for my campaign,” added Holland.
“It’s such an honor really to have that amount of support come in.”
Both councillors are ready to get started.
“I’m really excited to see what all the current policies the town hall team is working on,” said Holland.
“They’re an awesome group of people. So I think we’ll get a lot done quicker because we can work together.”
“I’m ready for this challenge,” stated Hawton.
“I’m committed and motivated to sit at that table and to do the hard work that’s asked the council to do.”
