Creston Airport Drag Races this weekend

Creston Airport will trade planes for cars this Sunday, as the fourth annual 1/8 Mile Creston Drag Racing event will take to the tarmac.

Creston Valley Cruisers’ President, Fred Crane, says it’s an event not to be missed.

“This Sunday we have mid forties of racers, we have several vendors with all kinds of varieties of different foods and snacks, and it should be a great day for everybody.”

What to expect

Cars and drivers from all over will descend into the Valley as they get ready for Sunday’s main event.

“We place all of the cars in the pit area,” said Fred.

“Before they can race a team of techs will check the cars, and we make up three different classes- two classes for different vehicles depending in their speed and a class for motorcycles.”

“They will line up, and there is a Christmas tree with lights on it and it’s a handicap system. This makes it even for all cars out there.”

Organizers are expecting to draw quite the crowd.

“We have one driver and car coming from Fort McMurray, we have them come from down the US, Albert and different area of BC, and there are quite a few cars there that are quite fast.”

This family friendly event is part of the Creston Valley Blossom Festival Weekend and welcomes everyone along.

“Its $10 at the gate to get in, children 12 and under are free and for the racers they can go to CV Cruiser website and register.” said Fred.

And there is still room to throw your hat in the ring for the title.

“This is a fun race, so if you are an experienced racer or you are just learning how to race you can come, we have a great team, and we can show you what to do.”

So, if you find yourself looking for something to do, put Creston on your map.

“A big thank you to the club members, all the volunteers, the racers and fans and our sponsors, everyone one makes this amazing event happen.”
