Creston calls for a safer borders

Creston Councillors say the pressure is on for Provincial and Federal Governments to do more to secure our borders from cross-border traffic and illegal activity.

Mayor Arnold DeBoon says at this week’s council meeting, councillors voted unanimously to write to the powers-at-be to protect our border town.

“At one time Creston had what was called the integrated border enforcement team. And we would like that to return to our town because of our location. And I think there is perhaps more of a government initiative federally to beef up security at the border.” said DeBoon.

“So, we’re hoping that the time is right for this.”

DeBoon says despite the presidential shift to the south, he expects to see increased border security over the next few years.
