Free Art Workshop on Hapa-Zome / Flower Pounding

August 9, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

A Japanese word meaning “leaf dye”, hapa-zome is a Japanese art form that creates stunning prints by pounding the pigment out of leaves and flowers into a piece of cloth or paper. This type of natural printing has been around for centuries and has recently been made popular by textile artist India Flint.

Join us on Wednesday evening, August 9th at 7 pm at the Creston Public Library as we get creative this summer.

Local fiber artist and teacher Anne Fetterly will introduce us to this art form and lead us through making our first project. It is a quick and easy method to learn and only requires a hammer, leaves, flowers and a pounding board. Since it is quite noisy we will be outdoors in the beautiful Lawrence Lavender Memorial Garden behind the Creston Public Library.

It would be ideal if everyone brought their own hammers and a good selection of fresh flowers and leaves collected from their yards. To stay fresh, the flowers can be put in plastic bags and stored in the fridge for a few hours beforehand. Anne will supply the pounding boards, fabric, paper and miscellaneous items.
