After a smoke-related death, the province is reminding residents to be cautious of their smoke intake.
The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating the death of nine-year-old Carter Vigh of 100 Mile House after an existing medical condition is believed to have been aggravated by wildfire smoke.
“Wildfire smoke can present health and safety risks, particularly for those who are very vulnerable,” said Emergency Management Minister Bowinn Ma.
“In some cases that risk is extreme.”
She said it’s important people know how to reduce their risk.
“People can protect themselves from smoke by staying indoors, keeping their windows closed and using air cleaners with high efficiency and controlled air supply as well.”
Wildfire smoke is especially dangerous to people with pre-existing heart and lung conditions, older people and infants and young children.
