Police dog involved in arrest of violent assault suspect

RCMP Police Dog Services were instrumental in the arrest of a Creston man last week.

On Jan. 10, officers responded to reports of an alleged assault.

The suspect, a man known to police, had allegedly violently assaulted a woman.

The Southeast District Emergency Response and Containment Teams assisted the Creston RCMP, as they have frequently in other arrests earlier this month and late December.

With their assistance, the suspect was located and confronted. He fled on foot to an area near 12th Ave and Alder St.

Using a K9 unit, RCMP were able to track the man to an outbuilding.

Despite being found, the suspect refused to comply with the officer’s demands, so the K9 unit assisted him in doing so.

Clark Patrick Hills, aged 50, was later brought to hospital for minor injuries related to the incident with the K9 unit and was arrested.

“This was a dynamic arrest of an individual that has an extensive history violence and fleeing from Police,” stated Creston RCMP Commander Staff Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk in a release.

“It was in the absolute interest of the public to get Hills off the streets and into custody.”

Hills has since been released on bail, with conditions stating he not be allowed within 50 kilometers of Creston.

“His subsequent release on bail was not the outcome Police were hoping for, but his ‘No Go’ Creston condition will help to alleviate public safety concerns associated to his behaviour in the Creston Valley. We are once again grateful for the assistance brought by ERT and Police Dog Services.”
