Kootenay-Columbia MP Wayne Stetski is welcoming federal support for softwood lumber producers.
This week the government announced an $867 million package for the industry facing new US tariffs.
Stetski says mills in his riding could certainly use it.
Stetski says he’ll check in with mill managers in a couple of weeks to see if it’s meeting their needs.
He also says while this is a good stop gap, a long-term deal on softwood must be reached with the US.
